High Performance World Sponsors OutlawsThe John and Sharon Ward / Gotcha Racing / High Performance World Dragster fronted up for the USA v AUS Top Fuel Invasion at Western Sydney International Dragway (WSID) for a round of the Track Championships.
The HPW Dragster went out for their first qualifier when the Dragster didn’t shift into second gear but still went through to qualify into the Supercharged Outlaws field with an ET of 7.78 at 175.89 mph, so the team then took the HPW Dragster back to the pits to check out why it didn’t shift into second gear, but nothing was apparent at that point of time and the onboard computer did not obtain any data from the run.
The HPW Dragster fronted up for the second qualifier as the HPW Team stopped in the staging lanes. Wardy clicked the switch and realised that the HPW Dragster had no power, so the team were in the staging lanes removing the front panels to change a blown or faulty fuse, which fixed the problem and went on to run an ET of 7.346 at 183.72 mph to qualify in fifth position.
The event win in Supercharged Outlaws went to Ben Gatt against Doina Day.
The HPW Team downloaded the data from the onboard computer and all was well with the car with the replaced fuse and the team was happy with the Dragsters performance.
The Team took the Dragster out for a third qualifier and ran an ET of 7.407 at 171.14mph.
The team were happy with the consistency of the Dragster so the HPW Team decided to hold off on doing the fourth qualifier on the Race Day morning and wait for First Round in the welting heat of 37 Degrees Celsius with relatively high humidity.
First Round the HPW Dragster was up against Doina Day from Victoria in her Rear Engine Dragster.
The two Supercharged Outlaws that were lined up to race in front the HPW Team shut off so the team waited patiently until the cars were removed from the track before firing up the 489 Blown Big Block HPW Dragster.
Wardy went into the water and did an impressive burnout and went on into stage, where Doina Day had the staging lights flickering and then deep staged.
The HPW Dragster reacted with a .117 to run an ET of 7.442 at 180.77 mph on a 7.40 dial in. Doina Day dialled in a 7.50 and ran a 7.659 cutting a sharp .015 light to take the win away from the HPW Team out reacting Wardy on the start line.
Overall the HPW Team was happy with the performance of the Dragster and is looking forward to obtaining some more ANDRA Championship points at the next event.
“The HPW Dragster Team continues to lead the Australian Supercharged Outlaw ANDRA Point Score on 120 points”.
Our next event will be on the 15th and 16th of February 2008 for the NRMA Summer Nationals at Western Sydney International Drag way.
Once again the HPW Team thank you all for your continued support.
