RUNNER-UP AT THE SNAP-ON NITRO CHAMPS 2, 3 MAY 2008 AT WSID





The John and Sharon Ward, Gotcha Racing High Performance World Dragster once again fronted up for the Snap-On Nitro Champs at Western Sydney International Dragway (WSID) for the last round of the Track Championships and the second last meeting for the season. The HPW Dragster went out for their first qualifier and ran a 7.151 at 179.56mph straight off the trailer. Second Qualifier and the HPW Dragster went on to run a 7.169 at 188.64mph showing consistency
Third Qualifier was ran at night and the dew started to set in. Wardy did a three quarter track burnout in front of the huge crowd, backed back and went into stage and the car was out like a bullet only to drift over towards the wall, causing him to get off it before half track. So the HPW dragster went through at 12.959 at 63.20mph.
Overall the weather was clear and crisp for a starting field of 21 Supercharged Outlaws where the HPW Dragster qualified in 6th position. Race day Saturday saw the field ready to go with first round being split-seeded. The HPW Dragster was up against Mal Gower in his Altered with Wardy taking the win as Mal Gower red lit and broke out. The HPW Dragster dialled in at a 7.15 and ran a 7.143 at 184.70 as Wardy had already seen the red light of Gower and drove the HPW Dragster out the back door. Second round saw the HPW Dragster on a bye run as the field was now down to 16 cars and seeded. Wardy did a 0.034 reaction and ran a 7.135 at 188.62 on a 7.14 dial in, breaking out, but taking the win on the bye run. Third Round saw the HPW Dragster up against Paul “Paddy” Moneley in the Chevy Nova. Wardy out-reacted Moneley and went through with the win running a 7.177 at 170.54 on a 7.135 dial in. Semi Final time and the HPW Dragster was up against Shaun Liefting in his Altered. Liefting red lit and the HPW Dragster took the win and was into the Final after running a 7.248 at 168.39 backing off on a 7.135 dial in. Its Finals time and the HPW Dragster were up against Leo Parisotto in his 1934 Chev Coupe.
The air was at 350ft, the best air the car has raced in all season and Wardy got out with an awesome 0.005 reaction against Parisotto’s 0.081. Wardy breaks out running a 7.094 at 172.54 on a 7.135 dial in having already backed off and pulled the chute at three quarter track taking the Runner-Up trophy, Overall the HPW Team was very happy with the performance of the HPW Dragster and Wardy with his Runner-Up Trophy for the team.

“The HPW Dragster Team is running equal second in the Australian Supercharged Outlaw ANDRA Pointscore on 120 points with the decider to be run at the Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway, Queensland 5,6,7,8 June 2008”.
